To Follow Desire

You never know where desire will take you. Like the sirens in myth, it can feel dangerous. Not desire as in the performative wants, nor the bribes of comfort, but the thread that tugs from inside the cavern of the body and does not stop until you meet it. It feels nearly impossible to embark on following, even listening, to what those desires request from us.

We are conditioned to distrust desire. Desire asks for what undoes our disguises. It melts the forms
we’ve outgrown. Desire asks for what undoes our disguises. It melts the forms we’ve outgrown.

If there is a prayer in this, it is only this: May I be faithful to the deeper desire, the one that makes me more honest, more generous, more vibrant. May I meet shame with hearing, greed with generosity, fear with the next true action. and May I continue until the lights turn on for all.

More Musings

The Age of Eros is a manifesto, a guide, to the coming of an era. This is a woman’s way.
