The Buddha diagnosed it as suffering, the tendency to identify with a self, a group, or the world of appearances. The solution was deceptively simple: disidentify. Today, we call this trauma only we’ve lost sight of the cure and increased identification with the suffering, the self, the group, the world of appearances.
Disidentify. Get free.
Artists since time immemorial diagnosed it as the creative block. The anxious torment that comes when what is meant to be expressed is blocked by the artists identifying with the interpersonal genius that they are but a host of. Today we call this trauma.
Disidentify. Let it flow.
Physicians once called the tormented state of neurosis brought about by a woman’s blockage in her sexuality “hysteria.” It was caused by her clamping down her erotic energy in order to operate by the codes of propriety, her choosing to identify with a masculine notion of good. Today we call it trauma: the hyper-vigilant state of energy locked in a membrane with no way to naturally express.
Disidentify. Unleash.
