If I were Eros, how would I want to be responded to?
In our relationship with Eros, we’re practicing how to be with everything. And in our relationships with everything, we’re learning how to be with Eros.
What I’ve discovered—what you might discover, too—is that one seemingly small thing, call it gusto, enthusiasm, or pre-approved joy, can unlock untold doors.
In the context of OM, you lie down and allow yourself to be stroked. You might get a stroke today that you hate—say a light, fast upstroke—yet tomorrow you may love that same stroke. We learn to metabolize all strokes into ecstasy.
We often carry a layer of duty on top of everything we do, but it’s really just a Western form of bragging. We say, “I have to…” do this thing. If you fell into the pot of gold—endless time, the capacity to fly, pure joy—and there were a few things you had to do to receive endless abundance, seeing them as “I must…” would close the channel; you lose your access.
The invitation in Eros is to strip the duty off. Joy despises it.
When you open in these places, you may learn that everything you ever disliked was the nutrient you needed, the one you were waiting for.
Eros tricks you into receiving what you like.
